Over the course of the first few weeks of October 2012, I took part of the Capital to Capitol canoe expedition during the last leg of the journey: paddling from New York City to Washington D.C. Our some 300 mile route through NY Harbor, the Raritan and Delaware Rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac offered a wide variety of shorescapes and ecosystems, industrial infrastructure (decayed and active) and weather conditions. Although most of our waking time was spent on the water en route, we did visit a number of shorelines along the way - for purposes of resting, eating and sleeping. I took these terrestrial visits as an opportunity to explore the shoreline landscape as well as collect any interesting synthetic flotsam that had washed ashore.

Presented here are images that reflect the voyage not by its main objective as a canoe trip from one city to another - but my own excursion within the excursion, an excuse to beachcomb whenever possible and collect interesting discarded objects.

Images in order:

1. Catalog of all 53 pieces that were collected during the trip.
2. Major waterbodies traveled through.
3. Locations where items were found.
4. Inventory of collected objects.
5. Toy soldiers.
6. Santa cup.
7. Fishing lures.
